For more than 30 years, Services for the Elderly has enhanced the dignity and independence of the elderly and disabled by providing compassionate, quality care.

SFTE is a private, non-profit home health agency licensed by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to provide Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which are non-skilled tasks provided by agency attendants in the client's home.

-  1972:            Services For the Elderly begins as a subsidiary of Child and Family Services.

-   1976:            With grants from the federal Model City program, SFTE incorporates to provide family care help

-   Early 1980s:  SFTE contracts to provide Primary Home Care.

-   1993:            The Client Managed Personal Attendant Services (CMPAS) program is added.

Services for the Elderly provides:

Personal Assistance Services (PAS):  SFTE provides attendant care under the auspices of several different programs. The tasks can include personal assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming including routine hair and skin care, meal preparation and feeding, toileting, transfer assistance, light cleaning, laundry, shopping, escorting, exercising, and assisting with self-administered medications.

These programs differ in eligibility:

Independent Care: Because we are a non-profit, Services for the Elderly is able to provide quality in-home attendant care at a very affordable fee.  The client chooses the tasks to be done and the days and times of service each week.  The Independent Care Coordinator makes an initial interview appointment in the client’s home at no charge.

SFTE is able to provide short term scholarship assistance to individuals in financial need who may qualify for Medicaid.

Through a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure Austin Affiliate, SFTE assist patients recovering from breast cancer surgery or chemo or radiation therapy with homemaking tasks, showering, and so on during the course of their treatment.

Intermittent care can be arranged for a person who is visiting in Austin.

All requests for services through this program are directed to our Independent Care Coordinator, Eloise Morgan, at 512-477-3796 ext. 209 or by email.

Client Managed Personal Attendant Services (CMPAS): Eligibility is determined by SFTE.  CMPAS was developed for the younger physically handicapped adult, so clients must be age 18 or older and mentally competent to direct their service provision, need at least 5 hours of personal care per week, and have a doctor's statement of disability. Individuals whose income exceeds TDHS guidelines for these services can still receive CMPAS; the cost is determined on a co-payment schedule. Referrals for service can be made directly to SFTE. For more information, contact Evelyn Cooke, Assistant Director/CMPAS Program Manager, at 512-477-3796 ext. 207 or by email.

Primary Home Care: The Texas Department of Human Services (TDHS) determines client eligibility and gives eligible recipients a choice of agencies. To be eligible, an applicant must be receiving Medicaid, need assistance with activities of daily living (such as bathing, dressing, cooking, etc.) and have a medical need for the service. All requests for service through this program must be made to the TDHS.
